Let’s make a Newton we can all afford!

Hi, I’m Cyrus!

I’m a lifelong Auburndale resident with a love for Newton and for designing solutions.

I’m running for Newton City Council to make our city more affordable, connected, and welcoming for everyone. From protecting the homes and small businesses that anchor our neighborhoods to investing in public transportation, schools, and sustainability, I’m focused on smart, community-centered solutions. I believe Newton can grow without losing what makes it special—and I’ll work every day to ensure our city works for families, seniors, and small businesses alike. I’d be honored to earn your vote.

I am an architectural and urban designer and would bring this key set of skills to the City Council’s work. I’ve built my career understanding how our communities, local history, natural resources, and infrastructure come together to create a truly special place. My background in community engagement has taught me to have a “listen first, then design solutions together” approach, and I hope you’ll join me in this effort!

Making Newton More Affordable, Especially for Young Families & Seniors

Cyrus will fight to limit the teardown of homes that families rely on, preserving starter homes and supporting the development of new “missing-middle” housing that young families can afford and longtime residents can downsize into without leaving the community.

Preserving Small Businesses, Tree Canopy, & Historic Architecture

Cyrus will champion a new Small Business Preservation Plan to ensure the businesses we all love can afford to stay in our communities through a collaborative program that encourages developers to create affordable retail spaces, creating a city-run small business incubator, and the development of an available property database to help businesses move straight into new spaces.

Investing in Our Schools, Environment, & Infrastructure

Cyrus will rebalance the city’s long-term revenue by encouraging thoughtful commercial development to reduce overreliance on homeowners to fund schools, parks, and transportation. He’ll also support a free composting pilot and gender-inclusive bathrooms in municipal buildings.

Improving Accessibility, Equity, & Sustainability Across Our Community

Cyrus will work in partnership with MassDOT and the MBTA to make common-sense accessibility and affordability investments in our transportation services to better connect Newton to the regional economy, reduce traffic, and attract business.

I’m grateful to have the endorsements of friends, neighbors, organizations, and elected officials!

-Honorable State Representative Kay Khan

“I am pleased to strongly support Cyrus Dahmubed running At-Large for Newton City Council from Ward 4. Cyrus is engaging, enthusiastic, and Harvard-educated with an advanced degree in architecture. Cyrus grew up in Auburndale, has a strong interest in community building, and will listen and connect with the people of our community.

Please join me in supporting and voting for this inspiring and talented young man.”

-Councilor Andrea Kelley Ward 3

Cyrus will bring a much needed infusion of positive energy and the fresh perspective of a younger generation to the City Council. He listens well and always looks for common ground.
Newton will benefit from his experience with zoning, urban planning, and architecture.
